Kathy Bennett, Stand Strong Joaquin Team Captain, shares why she walks for her grandson.
“I walk to help spread awareness and to be an advocate for my 4-year-old grandson Joaquin as well as all individuals with down syndrome. For me, the Buddy Walk is not only a special opportunity to celebrate and recognize people of all ages with down syndrome, but it is also a time when my family and I get together with our friends and loved ones to appreciate and utilize the resources and support provided by the Down Syndrome Network of Arizona. The Buddy Walk continuously warms my heart from the time we arrive as my family and I connect with old friends, meet new friends and see the excitement on all of the participants faces.
I truly enjoy organizing the fundraiser and uniting our team, Stand Strong Joaquin, which has raised $22,880 over the past 3 years. I am always humbled with every donation we receive. My heart smiles knowing the funds we raise goes right back to our community providing support and resources to the families and individuals with down syndrome. My friends, family and their friends and family never cease to amaze me with their continuous love and support for the Down Syndrome Network of Arizona. It is an honor to be a part of a wonderful organization in our community. Everyone “rockin that extra chromosome” deserves everything our world has to offer. Never give up. Never set boundaries. We all can reach our goals, some take longer than others.”
