Join us in welcoming our new Executive Director, Louise Bowden!
The Down Syndrome Network of Arizona Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Louise Bowden, CFRE as Executive Director effective immediately. The Board has the fullest confidence that Louise will use her years of nonprofit experience in fundraising, team building and leadership to foster the growth of the vision of Down Syndrome Network of Arizona (DSNetwork) in the years to come.
Board Co-Chair, Rebecca Fredrick-Jilg, commented, “I am pleased to welcome Louise as the Executive Director for DSNetwork. She has been instrumental in helping us grow our programs and funding over the last few years, and I know she will be a great asset for us going forward.”
“I am grateful to DSNetwork’s Board of Directors for their trust in me and the opportunity to serve as Executive Director of this incredible organization. I look forward to building on the vision of the agency’s founders and great foundation developed over the last fifteen years,” said Louise Bowden. “I’m excited to be working with the staff, board, volunteers and community partners, along with individuals with Down syndrome and their families.”
Louise joined DSNetwork in 2015 as Director of Development and Special Events. She has assisted the agency in successfully expanding its programs and services offered to over 2,500 individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Some of her accomplishments include working with a committee of devoted volunteers to increase the agency’s revenue two-fold, shaping its community resources and collaborations and developing more efficient integration processes to effectively manage its day-to-day operations.
Louise’s philanthropic career spans more than three decades in leadership roles with various nonprofit organizations. Her experience includes producing major fundraising events, working on a capital campaign, creating and implementing development plans, preparing cultivation and stewardship strategies, writing grants and overseeing volunteer and staff roles. She volunteers for several nonprofits and served on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Early in her career, Louise was drawn to the fundraising profession after being involved with AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin as a volunteer and chair of the organization’s first AIDS Walk. She found her background in sales and marketing, from which she gained experience while working in the hospitality industry and at VISIT Milwaukee, to be extremely valuable. One thing led to another. In 1990 Louise joined ARCW as development director and in a few short years was instrumental in raising over $1 million to assist in making a difference in lives of people living with HIV/AIDS. After six years, AIDS Project Arizona asked her to join their team and help grow their fundraising walk, which she successfully did by the third year and grew it to more than 10,000 people raising nearly $1 million.
In 2005, Louise earned her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials, which sets the standard for knowledge, experience and ethics which is held in high regard by fundraising professionals. Prior to joining DSNetwork, Louise served as philanthropic relations manager for Valle del Sol, one of Arizona’s largest nonprofit, community-based organizations. She is a graduate of Valle del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute and ASU’s Generation Next Nonprofit Leadership Academy – Class V. Louise is passionate about her work and her family. She and her husband have a fun-loving 20-year old son with Down syndrome, who is the love of their lives.
Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Louise to her new position as DSNetwork’s Executive Director!
