The Down Syndrome Network of Arizona has a variety of committees that help fulfill our mission. Experienced and passionate volunteers serve on each committee and work together to help make DSNetwork a successful organization.
DSNetwork Advisory Council
The purpose of the Advisory Council is to keep key stakeholders engaged with DSNetwork and to be available to advise the Board, Development Committee and the executive leadership with regard to fundraising initiatives, public relations and programming issues. The Advisory Council does not have any authority to govern DSNetwork; such authority resides with the full board.
The Executive Committee, comprised of Board officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, shall convene on an as needed basis – empowered to act on behalf of the board on urgent issues in between board meetings. Issues may include Executive Director compensation or performance issues, issues needing immediate action, etc.
The Development Committee will be comprised of a Chair at least one other Board Member, Fundraising Event Chairs and Non-Board Members who will work in partnership with the Executive Director to help the Board carry out its due diligence function related to assuring fiscal health through philanthropy and fund development and institutionalize the philanthropic process within the Board and its individual members, assuring a donor-centered organization.
The Finance Committee shall be a standing committee chaired by the board Treasurer and oversees the organization’s budget and asset management. In collaboration with the Executive Director this committee approves short and long-term financial goals for DSNetwork, recommends and monitors a budget aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities, ensures compliance with strong policies and raises financial concerns and solutions to safeguard DSNetwork resources.
The Governance Committee shall be a standing committee chaired by the board Vice Chair and at least one other board member. The Committee is responsible for maintaining proper board composition and ensuring that the board governs effectively. This committee drives a comprehensive board self-assessment process (when board is ready), fosters the development of new and existing board members, manages board member recruitments and nominates candidates for officer positions.
This committee follows legislative developments on the local, state, and national levels. They share pertinent updates with families, advocate for the rights of all individuals with Down syndrome, and explore ways to support the mission of DSNetwork through government advocacy.
Down Syndrome Walk AZ
This committee assists the Director of Special Events in the promotion, logistics and the acquiring of sponsors for the Down Syndrome Walk. Another aspect for this group is to support our Down Syndrome Walk team captains, especially our first-time teams. This group typically meets once a month for 6 months before the event and then has a post-event wrap-up.

Lights, Camera, Auction!
This committee assists the DSNetwork in the promotion, logistics, recruiting of players and the acquiring of sponsors for DSNetwork’s Lights, Camera, Auction annual fundraising event. Another aspect for this group is to line-up auction items to add another revenue stream to this event.
This committee organizes educational workshops and resources for parents who have children with Down syndrome as well as professionals who work with people with Down syndrome. The workshops’ topics are relevant to what families have identified is needed and/or of interest. These educational opportunities help increase the knowledge base and provide the tools needed to effectively teach individuals with Down syndrome on important topics.
New Parent Outreach
This committee connects with a parent who finds out their child has Down syndrome, either pre- or postnatal. Members/volunteers who serve on the New Parent Outreach committee have received a half day of training about how to assist/mentor new parents.
CLUB Xtra for KIDS 0-7
