The Down Syndrome Network of Arizona has a variety of committees that help fulfill our mission. Experienced and passionate volunteers serve on each committee and work together to help make DSNetwork a successful organization.
DSNetwork Advisory Council
The purpose of the Advisory Council is to keep key stakeholders engaged with DSNetwork and to be available to advise the Board, Development Committee and the executive leadership with regard to fundraising initiatives, public relations and programming issues. The Advisory Council does not have any authority to govern DSNetwork; such authority resides with the full board.
The Executive Committee will be comprised of Board officers include Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary and shall convene on an as needed basis – empowered to act on behalf of the board on urgent issues in between board meetings. Issues may include Executive Director compensation or performance issues, issues needing immediate action, etc.
The Fund Development Committee will be comprised of a Chair at least three other Board Members, Fundraising Event Chairs and Non-Board Members who will work in partnership with the Executive Director to help the Board carry out its due diligence function related to assuring fiscal health through philanthropy and fund development and institutionalize the philanthropic process within the Board and its individual members, assuring a donor-centered organization.
The Finance Committee shall be a standing committee chaired by the board Treasurer and oversees the organization’s budget and asset management. In collaboration with the Executive Director this committee approves short and long-term financial goals for DSNetwork, recommends and monitors a budget aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities, ensures compliance with strong policies and raises financial concerns and solutions to safeguard DSNetwork resources.
The Governance Committee shall be a standing committee chaired by the board Vice Chair and at least two other board members. The Committee is responsible for maintaining proper board composition and ensuring that the board governs effectively. This committee drives a comprehensive board self-assessment process (when board is ready), fosters the development of new and existing board members, manages board member recruitments and nominates candidates for officer positions.
Aging Matters: Growing Older with Down Syndrome
Aging Matters is a program tailored for the aging Down syndrome population (ages 16+). Aging really does matter and the quality of life for our aging population should be the BEST.
This committee assists the Director of Special Manager in the promotion, logistics and the acquiring of sponsors for the Buddy Walk. Another aspect for this group is to support our Buddy Walk team captains, especially our first-time teams. This group typically meets once a month for 6 months before the event and then has a post-event wrap-up.

Lights, Camera, Auction!
This committee assists the DSNetwork in the promotion, logistics, recruiting of players and the acquiring of sponsors for DSNetwork’s Lights, Camera, Auction annual fundraising event. Another aspect for this group is to line-up auction items to add another revenue stream to this event.

This committee organizes educational workshops and resources for parents who have children with Down syndrome as well as professionals who work with people with Down syndrome. The workshops’ topics are relevant to what families have identified is needed and/or of interest. These educational opportunities help increase the knowledge base and provide the tools needed to effectively teach individuals with Down syndrome on important topics.
New Parent Outreach
This committee connects with a parent who finds out their child has Down syndrome, either pre- or postnatal. Members/volunteers who serve on the New Parent Outreach committee have received a half day of training about how to assist/mentor new parents.

CLUB Xtra for KIDS 0-7
Club Xtra for KIDS 0-7 years old is a group where parents can come with young one to play and interact with other children their age. In addition, the group provides parents time to network with each other, share their knowledge and experiences, and support each other. The Goal of Club Xtra is simple, we want to do everything we can to help our children reach their full potential while making lasting friendships in the process.

Tweens & Teens UP for Down Syndrome!
A program of DSNetwork, Tweens & Teens UP program is offered in both the East Valley, North Valley and West Valley. Youth with Down syndrome participate in monthly community-based outings, opportunities and activities to socialize and meet friends in a supportive atmosphere.

World Down Syndrome Day
DSNetwork celebrates World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) in March with a family carnival-style picnic, bounce houses, train rides and music. The committee plans and organizes the celebration.
Family Connections committee works with DSNetwork’s various support groups, such as D.A.D.S. (Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome), DS ConneX for Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, and Family Members, and MOMS’ Night Out.

Each year, DSNetwork publishes a calendar featuring our annual events, ongoing programs/services and all the beautiful faces of our loved ones with Down syndrome. The calendar is distributed to more than 2,000 families, friends and professionals to promote Down syndrome awareness, acceptance, and inclusion. The highly anticipated calendar is debuted each year at our annual Buddy Walk…Together for Down Syndrome.
